State ranks sixth out of 50 states for total number of honors in national campaign
Reid Health is one of only four hospital systems in the Indianapolis area and one of 14 in the state that has been recognized as among the top in the nation for organ donor awareness.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration recognized the 14 Hoosier hospitals with the nation’s highest award for success in promoting organ tissue and eye donation and transplantation services. The U.S. Workplace Partnership for Life (WPFL) hospital campaign was created in 2011 to improve the commitment to organ donation education among employees members and customers of the country’s health care systems and centers. In 2017 the Indianapolis area facilities that earned the campaign’s recognition of Platinum Level Award Winner besides Reid Health included Franciscan Health Indianapolis IU Health Methodist and IU Health University Hospital.
“The more we can do to educate our communities translates to more lives we can save through donation and transplantation” said Kellie Hanner Indiana Donor Network president and chief executive officer. “Indiana Donor Network is pleased to partner with Reid Health on this important mission and is grateful for all they do every day of the year.”
With small and rural facilities and large health systems in Indiana participating in the 2017 WPFL Hospital Campaign the state ranked sixth in the country for its overall number of campaign honors with 41 Hoosier hospitals earning Gold Silver or Bronze level recognition and 14 facilities achieving Platinum status for their work conducting donation awareness and registry activities in their facilities and communities.
New Indiana registrants secured during WPFL were among the nationwide group of close to 30000 new donors who added their names to the country’s state registries over a seven-month period bringing the total national donor registrations added through the campaign to 419102 since its inception.
