Reid Psychiatric Services: Providing compassion, hope and respect

Reid offers inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services for adults and seniors, including helping with issues such as addictions, dementia, depression and other emotional/behavioral problems. We are committed to helping patients obtain the highest quality of life possible.

Our team includes psychiatrists, licensed social workers, certified nurses and others who are dedicated to the mission of wholeness, body, mind and spirit.

Changes brought on by the aging process can be challenging, overwhelming and sometimes debilitating. That’s why we offer geropsychiatric services to seniors suffering from emotional and psychological distresses such as depression, anxiety, changes or problems with medication, dementia and psychiatric disorders in combination with other medical conditions.

Becoming aware of and understanding how the aging process can affect a person’s mental and physical health is an important step of the healing process. Our geropsychiatric unit combines a safe environment, a structured and supportive social setting and intense psychiatric and psychological therapeutic interventions along with medical services to help seniors achieve their optimal level of functioning.

Our 38-bed facility provides intensive treatment for the elderly who suffer from acute psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment and age-related physiological disabilities.

Treatment options include our “Kluter Relaxation Area,” providing sensory stimulation for patients who are withdrawn or who need help with impulsive behaviors. Every aspect of treatment is intended to assist patients in achieving an optimal level of functioning.

Our treatments include:

  • Admission screening
  • Evaluation and assessment
  • Individual treatment planning
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Group therapy (occupational and activity)
  • Medication management
  • Discharge planning
  • Outreach and aftercare
  • Family and caregiver support

The Reid treatment team includes psychiatrists, physicians and medical specialists, registered and licensed practical nurses, licensed clinical social workers and occupational & activity therapists.

Adult Psychiatrics

This unit provides 4 beds for acute psychiatric and substance abuse detoxification services. The unit is for patients 18 or older who are experiencing depression and/or family crisis, bipolar illness, schizophrenia and/or problems associated with personality disorders.

Many also have secondary problems with substance abuse. We provide safe detoxification of patients with significant withdrawal from chemicals requiring medical stabilization (alcohol and benzodiazipines). The primary focus of this short stay acute unit is to assist patients in stabilization, symptom management evaluation and the return to long-term therapy in the community.

A multidisciplinary team works closely with the patient and family on both inpatient units to achieve the best results possible. The team includes LPNs, RNs, social workers, psychiatrists, medical consultants, activity therapists, dietitians, substance abuse counselors and occupational therapists. In addition to traditional medical care, consisting of physical exams, treatments and medication, the staff provides admission assessments and is directly involved in developing and facilitating a variety of groups (goal, medication education, life/leisure skills, spiritual support, etc.).

Treatment approaches include:

  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Medication management
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family counseling
  • Substance abuse assessment and counseling
  • Activity groups
  • Medical detoxification

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a modernized and effective treatment for victims of severe or treatment-resistant depression and for some patients with mania or schizophrenia. ECT is administered under general anesthesia with supervision by an anesthesiologist, a psychiatrist and an RN.

An evaluation with an ECT-trained psychiatrist and primary care physician determines if a patient is a candidate for ECT treatment. Patient and family education about ECT and psychiatric illness is also provided.

Reid ECT services include:

  • Assessments for patients for whom anti-depression medications have been ineffective and for whom ECT treatment might be indicated. This can include patients who are suicidal and/or emaciated.
  • Individualized treatment
  • Personalized education for patients, families, agencies and caregivers regarding ECT treatments, risk and benefits

Reid’s collateral services include:

  • Assessments by a psychiatrist
  • Medical clearance for treatment
  • Education for patients, families and caregivers
  • Ongoing assessments for improvement and course treatment
  • Medication management
  • Follow-up care

For additional information regarding electroconvulsive therapy services or to make a referral, contact us or call (765) 983-3298.
