these are rough-textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that are a precursor to a certain type of skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). It is important to treat AK because there is no way to tell when or which lesions will progress.

- Photodynamic therapy
a unique treatment using light activated drug therapy to treat Actinic Keratoses. Levulan is applied and allowed to incubate. The solution is then absorbed by the AK cells where it is converted to a chemical that makes the cells extremely sensitive to light. When the AK cells are exposed to the BLU-U Blue Light Illuminator, a reaction occurs which destroys the AK cells. The result is healthier, less sun-damaged skin. The process can also be used to treat acne and other inflammatory disorders of the skin.
