Does every applicant automatically get a volunteer position?
Multiple applicants are reviewed for each opening. After screening of application information and through interviews with volunteer services and program staff the most qualified applicant is chosen for each position. Volunteer Services reviews all completed applications for content, availability and skills/interests and will choose applicants to interview for each open position accordingly.
Why can’t I start volunteering right away?
There are certain steps that any person who wants to be a volunteer at a health care organization must follow. Those steps include making sure a volunteer has completed a health assessment, criminal background checks and interviews. Every volunteer must be also attend a Reid and Volunteer Services orientation.
What if I need to take a leave of absence or go to Florida for the winter?
Active volunteers are given up to a 6 month leave of absence for medical or personal reasons.
When do my pharmacy benefits begin?
All volunteers may begin pharmacy use after their 90 day introductory period. In order to maintain the use they must remain active by volunteering at least 12 hours a quarter.
What is the commitment?
Because of the amount of training involved, Reid asks for a six month commitment.
How will I know what to do?
All new volunteers go through an interview process and a day and a half of orientation to familiarize themselves with Reid Hospital and the operations of Volunteer Services. Experienced volunteers and supervisors will train the new volunteers in their assigned area.
How long does the application process take?
About 1 month from interview to starting your assignment.
Who volunteers at Reid?
Volunteers are men, women and teenagers from all walks of life. They are retirees, former patients, husband-and-wife teams, professionals and students.
When do volunteers work?
Volunteers are needed seven days a week, mornings, afternoons and evenings, but they usually work once a week, 2 to 4 hours at a time.
What jobs are available for Reid volunteers?
Volunteers work in a variety of places including nursing units, emergency room, education, surgery, pharmacy, information desk, Gingko Boutique, health information management (medical records), doctor’s offices, Reid @ Home, heart services, accounting and Reid Foundation.
