View Richmond through painter’s eyes in MacDowell Gallery exhibition
Nov. 4, 2025 -- Artist Phillip Erbaugh shares oil paintings capturing scenes from across Richmond in a new MacDowell Gallery exhibition, open through Jan. 31, 2026.

"Richmond Through
My Eyes" features a collection reflecting Erbaugh's view of the city through its
landmarks, local events such as performances by the Richmond Symphony
Orchestra, and commissioned portraits and architectural works.
Erbaugh is a lifelong
resident of Brookville, Ohio, and still lives in the home where he grew up.
He's dedicated
his career to painting and art education. He earned a bachelor's degree in art education from Manchester
College in 1976 and a bachelor's in fine arts in painting and drawing from Wright
State University in 1981. Erbaugh's studied with accomplished artists including
Pam Newell, Mary Ann Davis, Ray Hassard, Wyatt LeGrand, and Joshua Been.
Erbaugh's paintings have received numerous honors at local, regional, and national shows. Most notably, he won the Preble County Fair Scene Art Competition and Best of Show at the Preble County Fine Arts Center's Sacred Spaces competition. Also, he's earned honorable mentions at the Rosewood Art Gallery's The View and the Cincinnati Art Club's ViewPoint 45 exhibitions.
He's been
recognized multiple times over a period of years in the Richmond Art Museum's
(RAM) juried shows, receiving the Anne Belle Henthorne Memorial Merit Award, Diane
Ferlauto and Jerry Planck Purchase Award, Best of Show Award, and the Jim and
Sally Toschlog Award of Excellence.

His solo
exhibitions have been featured at venues in Indiana such as The Depot in Union
City and Manchester University in North Manchester, as well as in Ohio at the Pump
House Gallery in Chillicothe, the Gateway Arts Council in Sidney, Wittenberg
University in Springfield, and the Middletown Art Center in Middletown.
Erbaugh's
paintings are part of the permanent collections at RAM and Indiana Heritage
Arts.
The MacDowell Gallery is located on the second floor of
the Reid Health Outpatient Care Center at 1100 Reid Parkway in Richmond. The
gallery is named after Barry MacDowell, who served as Reid President and CEO
from 1988 to 2008. Visitors can use the Grand Staircase or the outpatient
elevators to reach the exhibit.
