May Ambassador ‘stepped into a role she didn’t know she was made for’
Gena Waltz, Manager of General Radiology
May 6, 2024 -- Gena Waltz has only been in her role as Manager of General Radiology at Reid Health for a few months, but the impact she's made has been profound, according to her co-workers.
"She has totally transformed our department," one person said. "Gena made the environment warm and welcoming. She has fought so hard for all of us. She's not only our boss, but she's a friend, too. She's always available to us and does everything she can to make sure we're OK."
"Gena stepped into a role she didn't know she was made
for," another co-worker said. "We're grateful every day. She's been the breath
of fresh air we all needed!"
Reid's Ambassador
for the month of May is a product of the health system's School of Radiologic
Technology. After graduating from the program in 1992, she began her career in
earnest at Reid before leaving for a short time and then returning.
She eventually
moved into a teaching position at the school -- a role she held for 18 years -- before transitioning to her current job last year.
"Education is my why," Waltz said. "Educating the patient
for compliance, educating staff and students to understand the reason behind
each procedure. Better understanding fosters better partnerships.
"Radiology plays a big part in the process of
diagnosis. The combination of technology and medicine works hand in hand. I
work with some amazing technologists who never cease to amaze me."
Co-workers say
Waltz has taken to her new position with grace and proven to be a perfect fit.
"She's a bright and shining light in the department,"
one person said. "I look forward to coming to work every day because I know
Gena always has our best interests at heart. I couldn't ask for a better
supervisor. Reid is truly lucky to have her!"
"Gena is a kind, caring person who expects and shows
true professionalism in all she does," another person said. "She's a shining
example of what an X-ray tech should be!"
A native of
Liberty, Waltz still lives in the community with her husband, Mike, and their
two "fur babies," Rocky and Remy. They have two grown children -- Ryleigh and
Payton -- and a 17-month-old granddaughter, Mavery.
"Every moment with her is precious!" Waltz said.
When she's not working,
Waltz enjoys playing pickleball and golf as well as traveling.
"I try to fill my life with experiences rather
than things," she said.
