I have 2 children that see Dr. Allen. I always schedule their well check appts SEVERAL months in advance. I'm a working mother and I have to make special plans to leave work and find a substitute teacher to cover my class when I make these appts. At least 5 times in the last 2 years~ your office has called me within the same week of my child's appt to reschedule their well check appt due to Dr. Allen being gone~ having a meeting or taking a vacation. That forces me to have to completely rearrange my schedule and plans. It's extrememy frustrating to say the least. As a matter of fact~ my daughter's well check appts are now done in January despite her birthday being in November because your office couldn't see her the week she was scheduled (around her birthday) and then couldn't reschedule her again until January. It's frustrating for this working mom and very inconsiderate of your patients' time. If I had other options for pediatric in Richmond~ I'd certainly be investigating them.
The wait time was ridiculous for a toddler to be kept in an exam room.
I was over charged for an unnecessary lab test.
Dr Allen can come across as judge mental and if you want patients to be honest it shouldn’t be clear that you’re looking for a particular response and that if a different response is given you’ll be disapproving. Otherwise your patients will just tell you what you want to hear. On the other hand~ she’s very patient and has a great rapport with kids and comes across as genuine and competent.
I understand that my son was given a same day appointment but I called and scheduled at 9am for 12:45pm~ the doctor didn’t even see him until 2:20pm after I approached the nurses station to ask if we had been forgotten about. The nurse that took his vitals was not at all friendly either. Unacceptable- if they didn’t have time to see him they should have said so and I would have gone to urgent care where I would have waited the same amount of time and been treated better.
When I called to make an appointment for two.sick children~ I was laughed at by the receptionist when I asked if my children's primary provider was available. She was very rude and disrespectful during the entire phone call. I have always recommended the doctors but always tell everyone you have to look past the front office staff.
My sons regular doctor is Dr Black who is amazing! Being that this visit was last minute because he was so sick~ we had to see Dr Allen. She was nice to us~ but her baby talk voice was way over the top. And she never tested my son for any of his symptoms. She sent us home with children's Zyrtec for his"cold". After three days of that not working and him continuing to get worse~ we took him to the hospital and he was diagnosed with the flu and pneumonia. Very unhappy with her overall.
MA that took care of my child documented a BP and temp reading and DIDNT do either....
Very friendly staff~ clean facilities and thorough examination by doctor. Wait time is way too long though and not enough things for kids to do in the rooms while waiting for the dr (just a few books). Would love to see more variety of items like puzzles~ leap frog books~ etc to make visit more enjoyable. These kinds of toys also won't take up much room so it is doable.
Amber allen is so extremely knowledgable caring shows more concern than any Dr ive ever known seen at this facility. She tells me info were i can understand what she means. I adore her~ shes gentle on my kids. Love love love her. Best dr ever
There Is a long wait for appointments when trying to be seen for a well check up. I've never had to set an appointment weeks out instead of within the week you are calling. Setting one month and two months appointments for my newborn and they are only 2 weeks apart but that's all they could do. It's pointless for a one month well check up to be 2 weeks prior to a two month well check up. It seems $$$$ is all they want.
