Reid Health honors 7 Family Medicine Residency Program graduates
June 29, 2023 -- Seven
physicians who are wrapping up their time with Reid Health's Family Medicine
Residency Program were celebrated Saturday at Forest Hills Country Club in
Richmond.
Members of the Class
of 2023 will complete the program over the coming weeks and then move on to the
next phase of their careers.
"This has been
a resilient class that dealt successfully with the impacts of COVID-19 on their
early training," said Phillip Scott, DO, FAAFP, Residency Program Director. "They became extra flexible and
creative in caring for patients through difficult situations."
Those
graduating in the 2023 class include:
- Jonathan Adams, DO, who will work in outpatient family medicine in North Carolina;
- Adebisi Adeyemi, MD, who will join Reid Health as a hospitalist;
- Waiel Almardini, MD, who will work in outpatient care for IU Health;
- Kimberly Carhuatanta, DO, who will work in primary care in Lawrenceburg, Indiana;
- Dustin Cundiff, DO, who will complete an addiction medicine fellowship with Community Health in Indianapolis;
- Ibrahim Khan, MD, who will work in broad spectrum family medicine in Minnesota; and
- Abdallah Saleh, MD, who is undecided.
Reid's residency program is affiliated with the Kansas City
University of Medicine and Bioscience in Kansas City, Missouri. Graduates complete three
years of training in family medicine, gaining a wide-ranging experience in the
Reid Health system.
Seven new physicians will join the
program next month, keeping the total number of residents at 16.
Six core faculty members -- Dr. Scott;
Novera Inam, MD; Nuzhat Nisa, MD; Donald Smith, MD; Andy Tran, MD; and Tim
Kaehr, MA, LMFT -- supervise the residents' overall training, along with 75
community physicians who act as preceptors across a variety of medical specialties.
The residents in Reid's program include:
- Advancing second-year residents Kristopher Brott, DO; Shruti Dave, MD; Tanner Everhart, DO; Nicholas Hinkle, DO; Joseph Intriago, MD; and Sara Khan, MD
- Advancing first-year residents Bothaina Afifi, MD; Nicole Hountz, DO; and Jeffery Lee, MD
- New residents Stephanie Delgado, MD; Rajesh Dhakal, MD; Megan Hammersla, MD; Christine Miller, DO; Vivien Nsonwu, MD; Jesse Smallwood, DO; and Salecah Ullah, MD
"Over the past eight years, the Family
Medicine Residency Program has become ingrained into our local medical
community," Dr. Scott said. "Our residents work with physicians in nearly every
department of the hospital and provide continuity care at clinics in Richmond
and Connersville, along with caring for patients at our local extended-care
facilities.
"We're proud of the growth shown by this year's graduating class over their time with us, and we're excited about the futures of those who are now entering the program.
