New MacDowell Gallery exhibit shines spotlight on real people, real places

Feb. 16, 2023 -- Visitors who
stop by the MacDowell Gallery on Reid Health's main campus might see some familiar
places and faces in the photos that comprise the latest exhibit there.
"Let's shine.
Together." depicts residents and locations from throughout Reid's
eight-county service area in Indiana and Ohio. The images were captured by a
trio of photographers working with Reid on the health system's new branding
campaign.
"'Let's
shine. Together.' is much more than a tagline. It's a state of mind and a
call to purpose. It's something that inspires, something that speaks to our
shared sense of community," said Craig Kinyon, Reid Health President/CEO.
"Above all, 'Let's Shine. Together.' is about character: being our best
and lifting others up.
"Reid Health -- our people, our principles, and our care -- strives to live up to this sense of
community. We are family, friends, and neighbors taking care of family,
friends, and neighbors."
The exhibit
features the work of photographers Jeffrey Bond, a Hagerstown native; Susanna
Tanner of Richmond; and New York-based Rudi Schwab. Each were asked to select
the images they were most proud of from their work with the Reid team.
"Each location I photographed offered something
different when it came to color, composition, light, and message so it was
hard for me to narrow my choices," Tanner said. "But I was drawn to the color
palette and natural light the Whitewater Valley Railroad Museum offered. There
was such a softness to it all, which was perfect with the subject matter -- children
interacting with their families."
"When I was just starting out, a photographer
told me a photograph is a fraction of a second that lasts a lifetime. That's
always stuck with me and rings so true," Bond said. "I enjoy the feeling I get
when I've captured a moment for people they will cherish for the rest of their
lives."

"Coming from the East Coast, the beauty of
the rural landscapes in this part of the country was inspiring. Over the three
days we were here, we experienced all the seasons. It was sunny, then it
rained, and on the last day it snowed, but everything was beautiful, regardless
of the weather conditions," Schwab said. "The people we worked with were so sweet
and genuine. It was clear they love where they live and are so proud of their
hometowns.
"I'm especially proud of this work because
I feel like we truly captured the feeling Reid wanted with their new brand."
The MacDowell Gallery is located on the second floor of the Reid Health Outpatient Care Center at 1100 Reid Parkway in Richmond. The gallery is named after Barry MacDowell, who served as Reid President and CEO from 1988 to 2008. Visitors can use the Grand Staircase or the outpatient elevators to reach the exhibit, which will be on display through the end of March.
