HealthWorks will transition to new local owner, become EnJoy Fitness Club
Sept. 6, 2023 -- HealthWorks Fitness Center in
Connersville will move to new local ownership at the end of this month and
become EnJoy Fitness Club.
Recently, Reid Health announced
HealthWorks would shut down as part of a restructuring meant
to reduce expenses and streamline efficiencies in the face of a projected $43
million annual gap between rising costs and underpayments from insurance
providers.
Originally slated to close at
the end of July, HealthWorks remained open while Reid officials explored a
possible transition in ownership to a local businessperson who had expressed
interest in taking over operations.
Reid has now reached an agreement with
Connersville resident Brennan Joy, who will operate the center as EnJoy Fitness
Club. It'll remain at its current location for the next year before moving to
another site sometime between August and October 2024.
"This is really exciting. With the financial pressures we're experiencing due to outside
factors, we weren't in a position to continue operating HealthWorks. We're
grateful to Brennan for stepping up to take this on," said Jason Troutwine,
Reid Health Vice President/Reid Foundation President.
"This has turned out to be a win-win
for everyone. We know how much HealthWorks means to the community, and it's
important to us that this will be locally owned and operated."
As part of the agreement, Joy will
lease space at HealthWorks' current location, 3542 Western Ave. in
Connersville, and acquire HealthWorks' equipment. Reid Health Primary &
Specialty Care - Connersville and Reid OB/GYN - Connersville will continue to
operate from the same facility.
"This has turned out to be a win-win for everyone. We know how much HealthWorks means to the community, and it's important to us that this will be locally owned and operated." -- Jason Troutwine, Reid Health Vice President/Reid Foundation President
Rock Steady Boxing classes also will continue to be
available there after the transition.
"Once the opportunity came up, it was obvious this was something we wanted to keep going. HealthWorks is a staple of the community," Joy said. "We want people to enjoy being healthy and living healthy lives."
Joy plans to expand services, moving
to a 24/7 operation in early October and adding a supplement store in late
October or early November that will be open to the public. Current HealthWorks
members will be moved over to the new EnJoy Fitness Club system and can expect
a mobile app to be available in early October.
