Chances are when there’s an issue, January Ambassador is ‘already on my way to correct it’

Jan. 5, 2026 -- For Darryl Goodwin, the best part of his job at Reid Health is the relationships he gets to build with the people he meets.
As a Field Support Engineer with Reid's Information Technology team, the organization's Ambassador for the month of January is a frequent visitor to some of the facilities away from the main campus, helping wherever he's needed.
"I love working here and interacting with not just the patients, but my co-workers and other employees," he said. "They make work feel less like a job. They're all great.
"They really became close to me, and they all know if they have a problem, I'm usually already on my way to correct it."
Co-workers say Goodwin always shows up with a smile on his face and a willingness to do anything he can to help.
"Darryl is so incredibly kind when doing his work," one person said. "He's always willing to do the extras that we grab him for when we see him in the building. We're blessed to have Darryl on our Reid team."
"He's always very patient and is knowledgeable in what he does," another person said. "He's quick to respond to questions, emails, or tickets we might have without hesitation and to address concerns or issues that might arise for staff and providers with enthusiasm."
Goodwin joined Reid four years ago after starting his IT career. A native of Richmond, he still lives in the city with his wife of 15 years, Lacey, herself an RN and Heart Failure Navigator with Reid's Patient Continuum of Care.
"My motivation comes from my wife. She's always inspiring me to be the best I can be," he said.
When he's not working, Goodwin enjoys building electronics, playing video games with his friends, and traveling.
"My sense of purpose in my career is to care for all the people that need help," he said. "The Service Desk is the front line for the IT department and are the first to respond to any problems. Our co-workers need to be assured we're there to help, and that's what I try to do every day."
