Jan. 5, 2023 -- A quartet of
new officers took their formal oaths of office Tuesday as part of the Reid
Health Police Department.
Officers Zach
Crawford, Tom Geiselman, Cory Metcalf, and Chris Rexrode have completed their
required pre-basic coursework and are scheduled to attend the Indiana Law
Enforcement Academy in February.
The group is
the first to be sworn in since the completion of the department's transition
from a security team to a full-time police department in December 2021, a
transition that began in early 2020. The Reid Health Police Department now
consists of 24 officers providing security and safety for Reid's
growing geographic footprint and a staff that numbers some 3,600 people.
"I'm excited to
see the continued growth of the department," said Pamela Jones, Vice
President/General Counsel for Reid Health. "RHPD leadership has been successful
in recruiting well-qualified candidates to continue the department's mission of
ensuring the safety of our patients, visitors, and Reid Health team members.
"I congratulate
each of these officers on their successful addition to the RHPD team."
Jeff Cappa, who
moved into the role of the department's chief in September, said the coming
year will see the continuation of his transition plan for the agency,
including:
- Continued training for all police department staff,
- Implementation of a new Workplace Violence Follow-up program to assist Reid employees who may have been a victim of a crime while at work,
- Development and implementation of new de-escalation and security code training for hospital staff, and
- Development of a new officer mentor and field training program.
"We're pleased to have these four officers join our agency," Cappa said. "Reid Health Police Department will continue to build our professional services upon the foundation of Reid's mission and values, enabling us to provide professional law enforcement services with integrity and accountability."
