Spring into Wellness is a free preventive screening and resource event open to the community on May 21.

Preventive care is one of the most effective ways to maintain good health and identify potential concerns early.

This spring, take the first step toward better health at the free Spring into Wellness preventive screening and resource event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 E. Main St. in Richmond.

The event is hosted by Reid Health Community Health & Engagement.

“Taking screenings and resources to a walkable location helps reduce barriers to access and helps community members get connected to the right services for them,” said Jess Przybysz, Director of Community Health & Engagement.

“We’re excited to have partners in our community come together for a common goal, to lead our communities to well-being, one person at a time.”

Open to everyone age 18 and older, no appointment or identification is required. Participants are encouraged to walk in at their convenience.

Focused on prevention, education, and support, the event will offer a variety of free screenings, including:

  • Cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Glucose
  • And vision checks

Community resources will also be available, providing information and support for:

  • Mental health
  • Nutrition and fitness
  • Dental health
  • Vaccines
  • Tobacco and vaping prevention and cessation

Ashley Shepard, Community Health Worker for Reid Community Health, said the event helps increase accessibility to preventive screening and resources by meeting people where they are.

“Life gets busy, and taking care of your health isn’t always easy. Sometimes people just don’t know where to start,” Shepard said. “That’s why real care means showing up — meeting people where they are, listening with compassion, and making it easier to take that first step.

“We invite the community to join us for a free screening. We’re here for you.”

The first 100 guests who complete their screenings will receive a free boxed lunch provided by Downtown Deli, along with a bag of wellness and hygiene supplies.

The event is made possible through collaboration with community partners, including the Neighborhood Health Center, Richmond Lions Club, and the Wayne County Health Department.
