For 6th straight year, Reid Health nationally recognized for commitment to excellence in stroke care

People in rural communities live an average of three years fewer than their urban neighbors and have a 30% increased risk for stroke mortality, according to the American Heart Association.
Reid Health is committed to changing that.
For the sixth year in a row, Reid has earned American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke, helping save lives, support recovery, and reduce hospital readmissions.
Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death in the United States, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. Studies show patients can experience better outcomes when care teams consistently follow evidence-based treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest science-backed guidelines.
As a participant in the Get With The Guidelines programs, Reid qualified for the awards by demonstrating a sustained commitment to providing quality stroke care.
“Our team works incredibly hard and that commitment is reflected in the exceptional care our patients receive every day,” said Misti Foust-Cofield, Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer for Reid Health. “The relentless focus on excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement is transforming lives and setting a standard for rural healthcare.
“I couldn’t be prouder of what this team has accomplished.”
This year, Reid earned the following awards:
- Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus
- Get With The Guidelines – Rural Stroke Gold (for the Richmond and Connersville campuses)
- Target: Stroke Honor Roll
- Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
“In stroke care, every minute matters — and for our rural patients, timely, guideline-based treatment can mean the difference between going home and never being the same. These awards reflect a team that treats that urgency as sacred,” said Jordan Raynor, MD, Reid neurologist and Stroke Medical Director.
“We're bringing the same standard of stroke care found at major academic centers to the communities we serve, right here close to home.”
To qualify for the Target: Stroke award, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the facility and treatment with thrombolytic therapy.
The Target: Type 2 Diabetes award aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized because of stroke.
“We’re proud to recognize Reid Health for its commitment to caring for people experiencing stroke,” said Steven Messe, MD, Volunteer Chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group.
“Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, including greater likelihood of being discharged home, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates — a meaningful benefit for healthcare systems, families, and communities.”
