June Ambassador serves up kindness, positive attitude at café grill

Though he’s known for his helpfulness and remembering individual orders at the Café at Twelve Hundred Grill, the last thing the June Reid Health Ambassador likes to do when he gets home is cook.
Brad Powell, grill assistant in Food & Nutrition Services (FNS), would much rather watch a good football or basketball game and leave the grilling to someone else, said the nine-year Reid Health team member. One of Powell’s nominators said Powell “is always kind and speedy” and often is able to remember specific things they like when they order.
Another nomination cited Powell’s professional attitude and said he demonstrates “true concern” for staff and visitors, sets an example with a positive attitude and is a “go-to” person for coworkers. “He truly goes out of his way to help others,” said another nominator.
Powell spent his first year on the team working with medical records in the cardiology practice before transferring to FNS, where he said he enjoys staying busy and serving staff and visitors. “I like how you can help people by simply interacting with them. For some people, that means the world to them. You never know what they are going through.”
Powell is a graduate of Richmond High School and lives in Richmond. He has two pets — Bentley the dog and Simba the cat. Before he joined the Reid Health team, he worked at Friends Fellowship in Richmond. He’s a huge fan of Notre Dame football and also the Golden State Warriors basketball team.
Not a fan of working at a desk, he said he likes being on his feet at his grill work station. He finds working at Reid Health “one of the better jobs, if not the best job in Richmond. I love the people I work with; I love coming to work.”
