The April Reid Health Ambassador says his coworkers are like a second family – and he’s had a lot of time to get to know them even better over the past year and a half.

In his lead role for the implementation of a new electronic medical record system just launched in March, Jason Blunk has spent numerous extra hours in his role as Systems Project Manager on the Information Services team. His leadership in the implementation of the new system sparked his Ambassador nominations.

“Jason has done an amazing job in helping to steer the organization through selection of our new Epic clinical information system. He has been courteous and respectful, encouraging and positive,” said one nominator. Another noted how Blunk went above and beyond to ensure the project – which directly affected the majority of team members, physicians and physician practices – was implemented successfully.

Blunk joined the Reid Health team eight years ago. The native of Kansas City, Mo., has his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri and has achieved the Project Management Professional designation from the Project Management Institute.

His role rarely has him crossing paths directly with patients, but his efforts have a direct impact on everyone involved in direct patient care.

“My role is focused on supporting the team that supports all those with direct contact with our patients,” Blunk said. His wife, Alli, also works as a nurse part-time at Reid. They have two children – Micah, 3, and Cara, 18 months – and are expecting another baby in October.

Blunk is the president of the Richmond Civic Theater board and also serves on the board of his church, Bethesda Worship Center, where he helps with the children’s ministry. Blunk said his family likes to “go on adventures,” such as trips to the Columbus Zoo, Indianapolis Children’s Museum or other regional attractions.

Blunk said it was “a real honor” to be nominated by his peers. With the Epic implementation, he said he truly saw the power of close teamwork. “I saw the whole organization focus on a common goal. As we think about this success, it’s because of the team.”
