Reid Health Medical Equipment earns perfect score in accreditation survey
May 21, 2021 -- Perfection is a goal often strived for but rarely achieved. Yet the team at Reid Health Medical Equipment was able to accomplish just that in its latest accreditation survey.
Reid HME recently received a perfect score from the Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation, meeting quality standards set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
"This is verification that all our hard work over the past three years is paying off," said Heather Hart, manager of Reid Health Medical Equipment. "So often, others only see our department as a place to buy diapers and batteries. They don't know the hours of training, workshops, webinars, and conferences my staff and I complete to be competent and knowledgeable about the services we provide to our patients.
"We are a very small, but mighty team. Earning a perfect score for this accreditation is proof of the confidence and trust that my team and I have in each other."
Reid HME is a Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) provider. It offers traditional medical products such as compression garments, wound healing supplies, breast pumps, and more along with a variety of retail items including batteries, diapers, and herbal supplements.
DMEPOS suppliers are required to comply with all quality standards set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to receive and retain billing privileges.
"This is verification that all our hard work over the past three years is paying off." -- Heather Hart, manager of Reid Health Medical Equipment.
There are about 30 quality standards to meet, some of which include multiple requirements and policies. The standards focus on a wide range of subjects, including financial management, consumer services, performance management, product safety, patient intake and assessment, delivery and set-up, and training.
"Not only do we have to document we're following these standards in our policies, but the surveyor also verifies through evidence that we're truly following all of the policies and procedures we have in place," Hart said.
An onsite survey is required every three years. Reid HME has been accredited through the Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation since 2009.
"Heather and her team work diligently to ensure we meet all the accreditation standards," said Billie Kester, Reid Health Vice President/Continuum of Care. "It's wonderful to have that recognized through an achievement such as this perfect score."
