Dental Health Clinic brings quick relief
Richmond resident Ron Whittaker hadn’t been to the dentist for about 25 years. Tooth decay had set in big time — his mouth hurt, he couldn’t eat certain foods, and he avoided going outside in cold weather, since his teeth were so sensitive to cold. Ron needed help, but without dental insurance he wasn’t sure where to turn.
Then a neighbor told him about a weekly dental health clinic sponsored and funded by Reid Community Benefit in cooperation with dentists at Mid-America Professional Group. “I called for an appointment and got in pretty quick,” said Ron, 60. “After the dentist looked at my mouth, he told me he was going to have to extract most of my teeth. The staff set up all my appointments right away and helped me enroll in an insurance plan, which ended up covering almost all of my costs.”
The dentist extracted Ron’s teeth over three visits. “I was awake for the procedures, but I had very little pain,” he said. “The staff treated me with all kinds of respect. They helped me out with all the insurance papers in every way possible. I want to thank them for everything they did for me.”
Ron does have one regret: “I just wish I had gone in sooner,” he said.
