Dr. Bill: Why I chose to be a podiatrist
Choosing to be a podiatrist was not a difficult decision. Medicine is something into which I was born. My father mother brother and sister are all medical professionals across a wide spectrum of specialties.
The choice for me was not whether I would go into medicine but rather what specialty I would choose. From a very young age I had an interest in feet which stemmed from my Greek background. Greeks as far as I am concerned have a genetic predisposition to develop bunions. My mother’s side of the family had bunions of epic proportions.
My curiosity on why this happened continued into adulthood and paved my path to the doorsteps of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Now nearly twenty years later as a podiatrist I understand bunions but I continue my education in many other conditions that are not so cut and dry.
